Selected video presentations from the Risk Settlement Planning Practicum are now posted online including Patrick Hindert's "History of Structured Settlements". The conference, hosted April 13-14, 2012 by the University of Tulsa College of Law and attended by attorneys and law students, is believed to be the first law school conference about settlement planning.

Hindert, Managing Director of The Settlement Services Group (TSSG), primary author of "Beyond Structured Settlements" and co-author of "Structured Settlements and Periodic Payment Judgments" (S2P2J) provided a 75 minute discussion explaining the historical and evolutionary relationship between structured settlements and settlement planning. The discussion featured diagrams by Timothy Morbach:

Hindert's discussion:
- Portrayed settlement planning as an emergent system with structured settlements as a core component.
- Highlighted increasing complexity and variations within the structured settlement life cycle.
- Emphasized the concomitant need for compliance and accountability to satisfy changing legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Specifically addressed: qualified settlement funds; special needs trusts; structured settlement transfers; and the ELNY liquidation.
